A key issue in any CHP project is properly identifying and assessing both the thermal and electrical needs of the project. C&B staff have the experience and the analytical tools to:

  • Gather and organize utilization data
  • Define and assess daily, weekly and seasonal demand variations
  • Characterize the balance between thermal and electrical demands
  • Develop optimal cycle designs and equipment selections to meet the Host’s needs
  • Develop economic feasibility and payback assessments
  • Organize and plan the interconnections necessary to minimize plant disruptions

C&B's CHP experience base includes the use of solid fuel units for steam or CHP application, combustion turbines in either combined cycle or heat recovery applications, steam absorption chillers, gas/oil fired package boilers and hot water boilers. C&B also has significant experience in the use of industrial scale back pressure and condensing steam turbines.

C&B also has a strong base of experience and capabilities related to modification and upgrade of existing plants. We have provided key analytical support related to firm capacity studies, heat balance analyses, dispatch analyses and fault tree analyses. We have also provided engineering for all phase of steam cycle equipment selection, design layout and pipe stress analysis. C&B understands the criticality of planning for system, equipment and infrastructure replacements without disrupting plant operations. We routinely develop detailed cutover procedures to assure continuity of essential services.

Furthermore, C&B has teamed with leading testing consultants to provide full-service engineering design and consulting to address industrial boiler MACT issues.
